FOX 46 asked UNC Charlotte if they plan to do anything to honor Sheldon. A spokesperson says that's definitely a possibility, but just too early to know for sure. They just learned he was one of their own today.

Mooresville police chief Damon Williams shared his memories with officer Sheldon and his K9 Ramon.

“The officer served this community with dignity and that's what I’ll remember most,” Williams said.

He asked for support from the community.

“I want you to engulf our officers this week, they're going to need to know that you as a community care about how they're feeling and what they're feeling," Williams said.
