Charred buildings and smoke could be seen billowing from an apartment complex off South Tryon Street Wednesday night in Charlotte.

Charlotte Fire said Thursday the fire was intentionally set.

Crews told FOX 46 Charlotte flames were sky-high, setting fire to the entire roof of the home.

The fire occurred at 7:00 p.m. in Brookhill Village. It took 23 firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the flames under control. Thankfully, no one was hurt at the time.

"It was a vacant structure. Firefighters were able to go through the structure, check, make sure it was empty, but right now it's under investigation," Captain Jackie Gilmore said with Charlotte Fire.

The apartments were set to be demolished, according to Charlotte Fire.
