More than 400,000 homes were without power across North Carolina as of Friday morning, as Tropical Storm Michael swept through.

Michael, once a powerful Category 4 storm that struck the Florida Panhandle Wednesday afternoon, had weakened significantly to a Tropical Storm by the time it reached the Carolinas.

However, the storm still brought heavy rain and strong winds, knocking out power across the area.

Duke Energy reports more than 428,000 homes in North Carolina were without power as of 8:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12.

On Wednesday, Duke Energy announced that as many as 300,000 to 500,000 of its customers could see power outages from Michael.
