Owner of cell phone store shot, killed during robbery in east Charlotte

A person was shot  in the 3100 block of N. Sharon Amith Road and later died at the hospital, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. (Source: Jarvis Murphy/FOX 46 Charlotte).

The owner of a cell phone repair store was found dead inside of his own shop in east Charlotte on Monday, and the shooter is still on the loose.

Police responded to the shop in the in the 3100 block of N. Sharon Amity Rd.  after guys at the barber shop next door found the victim, 29-year-old Elchin Khalilov, dead around 11:00 a.m.  

People who work in this area tell FOX 46 the shooting started as an attempted robbery. 

“Nothing is ever worth a life," one shopper said.

The gunman was reportedly going after cell phones and cash, but it ended with Khalilov shot in the neck. 

"He’s dead that's it." 

The workers at Milton’s Beauty Salon were the ones who found the gruesome scene inside of ‘The Fixer Electronic Repair’ store.

"He comes in at 10:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m., he [the suspect] comes into the store and kill him," the salon employee said.

People who work at the shopping center say no other customers were inside, but Ashlyn McCall just drove through the area 10 minutes before shots were fired. 

"I may have even seen the person that was there,” McCall said. 

Now, the east Charlotte community is mourning a man they knew and loved.

"He's nice. He’s my friend that makes me sad," said the salon employee.

Employees in the shopping center say the store owner was not from the United States, and his body will be sent back to his home country.
