Owner of stolen truck spots vehicle on road, calls police while following it

Jessica Corn reported her Chevrolet Tahoe stolen Monday morning. Six hours later, she spotted someone driving it on Interstate 85.

"He was weaving in and out of traffic, he was driving reckless, there were a couple of cars I saw him almost hit, almost run off the road," Corn said.

She called 911 and stayed on the line while she followed her truck.

"I told them, you guys need to get somebody out here before this guy kills somebody in my truck," she said.

North Carolina Highway Patrol officers responded. They chased the vehicle from Interstate 77, to Interstate 85, to Beatties Ford Road and successfully stopped the stolen truck on Brookshire Boulevard after it crashed.

They arrested 17-year-old Colin Singh-Latulipe and charged him with speeding, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, eluding arrest, reckless driving, failure to heed light or siren, injury to personal property, no operators license, hit and run, possession of marijuana and assault with a deadly weapon.

Troopers told FOX 46 Charlotte that the suspect wrecked the stolen vehicle and also struck a highway patrol car during the brief chase.

Corn said the doors to her truck were locked. She's not sure how the suspect was able to steal her vehicle that was parked in a off-campus, housing parking deck, near the UNC Charlotte campus.

She wants to remind people to stay alert of their surroundings and report suspicious behavior.
