CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - It’s the end of an era for some who visit the Park Terrace Stadium movie theater in Park Road Shopping Center.
“I grew up coming to that theater,” said Donna Wasner, “I remember seeing Marry Poppins there.”
FOX 46 Charlotte learned the theater is closing its box office on Sunday for good.
“I was pretty devastated, actually, because I come here a lot,” said Laurie Osullivan. “They have a lot of good movies that aren’t the blockbuster movies.”
FOX 46 Charlotte reached out to the General Manager of the Regal-owned theater, but have not heard back as to why it’s closing.
Those who work at the theater say they expect the company will transfer the to another theater. Meanwhile, movie goers at the cinema say they’re worried they won’t be able to find another place that shows foreign and independent films.
Some are still hopeful the quaint piece of Charlotte will get saved.
“It’s sad because it’s part of Charlotte’s history,” said Melanie Mason, “and I feel like we don’t take care of our history."
Others reminisced about what it was like when the theater first opened.
“[Tickets were] probably less than a dollar,” said Wasner. At least, for now, movie goers have just a few days to soak up the charming Charlotte cinema.
