Pedestrian fatally struck by impaired driver while putting gas in car on I-77

A man was struck and killed while putting gas in his car on I-77 North in Huntersville Saturday night according to Highway Patrol.

The incident happened on I-77 Northbound near I-485, between mile marker 19 and 20 in the Huntersville area.

Highway Patrol says Franklin Deepree Donaldson was hit and killed by a car while standing on the shoulder of the freeway.

A driver ran off the right shoulder, striking and killing Donaldson.

The driver, Terence Christopher Blanks, was charged with driving while impaired and felony death by motor vehicle.

Huntersville Fire Department says this fatal accident was an example of bad decisions by motoring public. Huntersville Fire has reponded to three similar tragedies in the same area which invovled pedestrians. All three were results of bad decisions.
