CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Charlotte Mecklenburg police have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a train Monday morning in northwest Charlotte.
Just after 9:30 a.m., Richard Darryl Brown, 56, was hit by a CSX train at 100 S. Hoskins Rd. Police were called to the scene and found Brown lying on the ground next to the train.
Preliminary evidence indicates that Brown was on the sidewalk near the crossing arms. He then walked in front of the train, going around the crossing arms which were lowered and flashing. Video from the train shows the horn and bell sounding before Brown crossed.
The train was traveling at approximately 12 mph when Brown was hit. The train engineer immediately put the train in emergency stop mode after hitting Brown and alerted police.
CMPD says Brown was under the influence of alcohol, which appears to be a contributing factor.
