An unknown person aimed a laser pointer at a military cargo plane Thursday night as it was approaching Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

Police said the FAA Tower contacted CMPD and reported the incident at 11:14 p.m. The unknown person shined a laser light into the cockpit of the NC Air National Guard C-17 Military aircraft.

The laser could have blinded the pilots. So far, the suspect has not been identified in this case.

Those caught pointing a laser at a plane could face felony charges and spend five years in prison. The FBI is known to offer up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest in these types of cases.
