Physicians, patients to testify in favor of Compassionate Care Act in SC

The state Senate Medical Affairs Committee in South Carolina is set to hold hearings on Thursday on the Compassionate Care Act, which would establish a statewide program for medical marijuana. 

There will be several patients, doctors and advocates who will be testifying in favor of the legislation at the State Office building from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

Among those scheduled to speak are Jeff Moore, former executive director for the SC Sheriff's Association, Dr. Julia Arnsten a professor and chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and Dr. Bill Griffith of Anderson.

Testimony will also be given by Purple Heart recipient Steven Diaz who was recently on a billboard in Columbia highlighting veterans' support for the act.
