CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A man has been transported to the hospital with serious injuries following a shooting that occurred between two groups along a road in west Charlotte, police said.
'Dozens of shots' reportedly rang out just after 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 along Ashley Road at Alleghany Street. The area was quickly shut down by authorities.
According to police, the shooting appears to have started in the parking lot of the shopping center and ended up in the street on Ashley Road. The victim was in a car at the time of the shooting
A family member of a 15-year-old that was involved told FOX 46 Charlotte that the shooting started as a fight between two groups at the Harding University High and West Charlotte basketball game.
Witnesses said the male victim was possibly shot in the back during the ordeal. They also report hearing about 25 to 30 gunshots before officers arrived on scene.
According to CMPD, after the first officer arrived on scene, shots were fired by the victim, who was still inside of his vehicle. The officer was not shot at and did not fire any rounds himself, CMPD said.
That same officer was able to then approach the victim and provide first aid to the victim, CMPD said.
This remains an open and ongoing investigation.
