CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - One person has been transported to the hospital with serious injuries following a shooting just north of uptown Charlotte Tuesday afternoon, police said.
CMPD said the shooting happened off Maribel Avenue and the victim was being taken by someone to a nearby hospital when their car crashed off Beatties Ford Road near Johnson C. Smith University.
The 911 caller told police that a vehicle had struck a telephone pole.
As officers arrived on scene, they discovered one person inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound. That person was transported to the hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries is unknown.
The driver was also transported for non-life threatening injuries sustained during the crash.
One witness told FOX 46, the car was speeding and the man who was shot was ejected from the backseat when it crashed.
"We could see the young man fly out the window, like, half of his body looked like a crash test dummy," witness Kendra Pettis said. "He kind of like smacked the pole, you could tell his arm was broken -- it was devastating."
This remains an open and ongoing investigation.
