CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is actively searching for the suspect who shot and killed a 19-year-old late Monday night in the University City area.
The victim has been identified as Jervais Wan Ya Cain, 19. His family has been notified of his death.
CMPD officers were called to the 500 block of Barton Creek Drive at 10:57 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20 for a welfare check. Upon arrival, officers found a teenager with an apparent gunshot wound.
Cain was pronounced dead on scene by Medic.
Detectives canvassed the area overnight to determine whether there were any witnesses to the shooting. Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
So far, no arrests have been made in this case. This shooting marks the city's 80th homicide.
