Police: 2 arrested in string of armed robberies throughout Charlotte

Two people are facing multiple charges in connection to a string of armed robberies reported throughout the City of Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. 

Quanterious Hommie Whatley, 27, and Tyrek Hendrix, 18, are accused of robbing seven businesses dating back to Jan. 16. 

Officers said the first armed robbery happened at the Payless Shoes Store along Eastway Drive. In this case, the suspect approached an employee demanding cash from the register and to open the safe. 

The two suspects are linked to armed robberies reported at GameStop on South Boulevard, the Family Dollar located on South Boulevard, Subway on Westinghouse Boulevard, Subway on Tyvola Road, Metro PCS on Westerly Hills Drive, and the Family Dollar on West Boulevard. 

CMPD said the two suspects were taken into custody this week after linking them to a suspect vehicle that had been spotted with each reported crime. 

Whatley is charged with seven counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Hendrix is charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.
