Police: 3-year-old dies of natural causes after being transported from Monkey Joe's

A 3-year-old girl who passed away after being transported from Monkey Joe's over the weekend died due to natural causes, officials said.

Findings from the Medical Examiner's Office were given to Matthews Police on Monday.

"Their findings incicated that this death was due to natural causes," the police department stated in a news release. "Therefore this case will be closed with no foul play or negligence found from this investigation."

Officers were called about 4:53 p.m. on Saturday to Monkey Joe’s on East Independence Blvd.

Police said the child was taken to Novant Health in Matthews where she passed away.

Monkey Joe's confirmed the child was not on an inflatable or playing arcade games when the incident happened. They said the police are waiting for a report from the medical examiner and are still investigating the cause of death. 

The Matthews location of Monkey Joe’s was closed Sunday. It has since reopened.
