A mother of two was killed Thursday evening after being caught in the middle of a shootout near NoDa, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

The incident occurred at 5:17 p.m. in the 100 block of E. 28th Street. As officers arrived at the scene they found Kendal Ryan Crank, 27, in her vehicle just east of N. Tryon Street. Medic arrived at the scene and tried to provide treatment, but she was pronounced dead.

The initial investigation revealed that Crank was driving east on 28th Street when she was shot at an intersection where several men were reportedly shooting at each other.

It appears Crank was not the intended target, police said.

A short time later, around 5:40 p.m., another person showed up at CMC with a gunshot wound to his arm. Police believe it could be related to Thursday's shooting incident.
