Police chase in Gastonia ends with Georgia murder suspect in custody

A police chase in Gastonia ended with a murder suspect from Georgia in custody.

After discovering the suspect, identified as Jamar Harris, was in Gastonia, Georgia State Police asked for assistance from Gastonia police to track him down.

After spotting Harris, a chase ensued. Beginning around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on I-85 and ended on Cox Road where Harris crashed.

Shattered glass and debris from a car littered the street.

Police told FOX 46 Charlotte that Harris started shooting at the officers. But they did not shoot back. 

"He hit two vehicles, at least two vehicles and I don't know if any police officer vehicles got shot into. But I do know that he shot at them," Heath McMullan with Gastonia Police said.

There were multiple injuries in this crash. One woman was immediately taken to the hospital. Harris is now in Gastonia Police custody.

He is charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, four counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of fleeing, eluding arrest, one count of possession of heroin, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia in connection to this incident.
