Police: Driver not being charged after hitting pedestrian in southeast Charlotte

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating after a person was hit by a vehicle in southeast Charlotte and is now in critical condition.

Officers responded to the 8500 block of Lawyers Road around 5:33 p.m. on Tuesday. The driver of a 2015 Volkswagen Passat was heading on Lawyers Road when a pedestrian tried to run across the street to get to Glenmont Road, according to police.

Police said the driver of the Volkswagen did not have time to react and the pedestrian was hit with the right front corner and right side mirror of the car.

The pedestrian was taken by Medic to Carolina's Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition.

The driver of the Volkswagen stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, according to police.

Police said alcohol and speed were not contributing factors in this incident and driver of the Volkswagen is not being charged.
