CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Charlotte Mecklenburg Police are investigating the fourth homicide of the year.
Around 5:40 a.m., investigators say they were called to an apartment complex off Forestbrook Drive in west Charlotte to assist Medic with a call. Officers say that’s when a man was found dead inside one of the apartment.
Family tells FOX 46 Charlotte the victim is 38-year-old Jermaine Moore.
"We lost another family member a few years ago to gun violence and now it's happening again. Something has to be done. We have to do better. We can't keep burying our family members,” said the victim’s cousin, Ariel Brown.
CMPD hasn't said how Moore died, but neighbors say they heard several gunshots early Saturday morning. They also spotted a suspicious UHAUL van parked outside the apartment.
FOX 46 cameras where there as that vehicle was towed away.
"Yeah the UHAUL was just sitting on the side of the road. I didn't think anything of it until they said it might have been someone who was involved,” said neighbor, Chelsea Albarez.
With whoever involved still on the run, neighbors in the apartment complex hope police step up patrols.
"My sister has two small kids and they don't even want to come outside and play anymore because it is so dangerous on this side of town,” said Albarez.
Meanwhile, the family of Jermain Moore just want justice.
"If you know something, say something. We want to know what happened to him. We want to be at rest. I want his mom to feel comfortable. I don't want her to worry. I want justice done for my cousin,” said Brown.
CMPD hasn’t said if the towed UHAUL van played a role in this homicide. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.
