Police: Kings Mountain schools placed on lock-down due to 'person of interest' reported in the area

Kings Mountain High School was placed on lock-down Tuesday as a precaution, according to Kings Mountain Police.

Officers told FOX 46 Charlotte they informed the school district there were 'rumors' of a person of interest in the area.

As a precaution, the district placed Kings Mountain High School, Middle School, and Intermediate School on lock-down for a short period. It was then changed to a modified lock-down.

A modified lock-down means everything keeps going inside the school, but no one goes in or out.

Parents received a call from the district about the situation. It was also posted on Facebook.

  • The schools released around 3 p.m. Tuesday (regular time)
  • The lockdown started between 2 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.
  • The district said they have not heard back from police regarding the person of interest
