Law enforcement is on the hunt for a man they believe robbed a bank in Davidson County.

Multiple police agencies were in Rowan County Tuesday searching for the suspect reportedly named Randy Earl Asbury. He is considered an escapee from the Federal Correctional Institute, Gilmer in Glenville, West Virginia after being released and failing to report to a halfway house June 24, 2015.

Police say 61-year-old Asbury robbed NewBridge Bank in the Davidson County town of Welcome. He showed a knife before leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to deputies.

Asbury led police to exit 78 of I-85 southbound where he crashed his car and ran away into the woods. Deputies searched for hours on foot and in the air. Police say Asbury used a friend's car to get away without permission and he stole a license plate off a disabled car.

Officials say Asbury is a white male, 5'7" and 260 pounds. He has an extensive criminal history and robbed a bank in Davidson County in 2003.

Officials believe Asbury is not a threat, but some police will be stationed at neighborhoods and woods access points overnight.

Police say they will begin an extensive search for Asbury again Wednesday morning.
