Police: Man claiming to be shot at arrested after jumping airport fence

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have arrested and charged a man for trespassing and carrying a concealed weapon at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

On Friday around 1:00 a.m. airport officers received a call from Airport Operations in regards to Jovany Castillo Lugo advising that he had been shot at by two suspects.

When officers arrived they were notified by airport officials that Lugo told them he climbed the fence to get away from two suspects shooting at him.

Officers found a box cutter in Lugo's possession. Lugo was taken to CMC for a minor injury to his hand after climbing the fence.

Officers spoke with a woman who was with Lugo and told them they were using drugs earlier in the day and came to the airport to get a flight to Texas, according to authorities.

She told the officers they walked around the perimeter of the airport and that is when Lugo jumped the fence. After investigating police determined no one shot at Lugo.

After being treated for his injury Lugo was arrested and charged with trespassing on airport property and carrying a concealed weapon.

Anyone with information concerning this case and or the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
