A man has been arrested for his involvement in the armed robberies of at least seven businesses in the Charlotte metro area since mid-November, police said.

Lucas Hawkinson, 35, is charged with seven counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

CMPD said they believe Hawkinson was motivated to rob multiple stores to feed a bad drug habit. They said he would target stores he knew were not that busy, and were in "predominantly white neighborhoods" so he could "blend in."

The crime spree spanned from north to south Charlotte and hit a number of small businesses starting at China Fun restaurant just before 12 p.m. on November 15.

On November 17, Hawkinson made his way to north Charlotte to hit the Smoothie King on 3020 Prosperity Church Road. Three days later on November 20 he tried his luck again at the Dairy Queen next door.

The fifth incident took place at the Starbucks on 545 providence Road on November 28. The sixth armed robbery occurred at the Carriage Cleaners on Colony Road on Monday, Dec. 4.

Hawkinson is currently being held at the Mecklenburg  County Jail. Additional charges may be forthcoming, police said.
