Police: Man shot by girlfriend's ex while picking up child

Police say William Hooker Jr. is accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend when he was going to drop off his daughter. 

Police say a man was shot by his girlfriend's ex when he was trying to pick the child up.

Officers were called to the 1200 block of Middlecrest Drive NW Monday afternoon. Upon arrival, they found Anthony Wright suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

Wright was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and had to undergo emergency surgery. He s listed in stable condition. 

Witnesses told police that an argument broke out between the two men when the woman's ex-boyfriend, William "Willie" Hooker Jr., arrived to drop his daughter off with Wright. Shots were fired and Wright was injured. 

A warrant for arrest has been issued for Hooker for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Anyone with information on Hooker's whereabouts is asked to call the Concord Police Department at 704-920-5000 or contact Cabarrus County Crimestoppers at 704-932-7463.
