Police: Man threatened with gun over Confederate flag confrontation

Hickory Officers responded to a possible assault by gunpoint on Sunday, August 16, regarding a Confederate flag.

The incident happened at 2350 U.S. Hwy 70 southeast. Officers say the victim reported that a black man had gotten upset about the Confederate flag displayed in the bed of his truck and tried to remove it. A fight broke out and the subject pulled out a pistol, according to Hickory Officers.

Officers say the subject drove off in a vehicle and was reported to be near Catawba Valley Community College. Officers say they found a weapon in an access road near the campus and the subject hiding in the bushes at the school.

Police say no charges are pending at this time.
