Police respond to suicide call, find remains in closet at home

LITTLE RIVER, S.C. (AP) — Horry County police are investigating the death of a woman whose remains were found in a closet at an apartment in Little River.

Lt. Raul Denis said officers were called around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday by someone who reported a suicidal man at the home.

Police said in a statement that they found a man hiding in the apartment and then discovered the decomposing body of a woman in a closet.

Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler told local media Wednesday the victim was 29-year-old Christian Hope Phipps of Little River,

Deputies think the man was responsible for Phipps' death. Police have not released his name.

Fowler said he's awaiting preliminary autopsy findings to determine the cause of death. He said the woman had been dead several days when her body was found.
