Police search for men accused of stealing car with toddler inside

Charlotte Mecklenburg police have identified a suspect accused of stealing a car from a gas station with a 2-year-old inside. Now, they're asking for your help finding him.

Jesse Kelly, 18, is wanted for larceny of a motor vehicle, second degree kidnapping and felony conspiracy. Police believe Kelly stole a woman's car from a south Charlotte gas station after she left the vehicle running and unlocked with her 2-year-old daughter inside.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 at the QuickTrip at 7115 South Boulevard.

According to police, the woman went to use the ATM in the store, leaving her 2-year-old child in the car. That's when the two suspects reportedly jumped into the car and drove off.

Police said the child's father responded from a nearby location and spotted the stolen car and began following it. Kelly and the unknown suspect then left the car near the intersection of Arrowood Road at South Boulevard, running from the scene on foot.

Kelly is believed to have been with another suspect who has not yet been identified. He's described as a black male, about 20 years old last seen wearing a red and black jacket and a black hoodie.

Anyone with information on Kelly's whereabouts or who recognizes the other individual in question is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
