Police search for suspect who stole U-Haul, robbed storage units

Police are searching for a man who stole a U-Haul truck, then used it to rob several storage units in south Charlotte, police say. 

Officers were called to the Extra Space Storage at 1350 North Wendover Rd. just before 9:30 a.m. on July 2 where it was reported that three storage units were broken into and nearly $500,000 worth of property were stolen sometime between June 17 and July 2.

Police say the man pulled up to the storage area in a U-Haul truck where he picked the locks to several units, taking various items. 

The U-Haul truck was reported stolen on May 2 from 5108 South Blvd. It was then found at 6518 Fairview Rd. on July 5 with the stolen property inside.

The same man is believed to be responsible for a break-in at the Extra Space Storage located at 10140 South Tryon St. in southwest Charlotte.

The suspect is described as a white male, with a medium build and possibly a short beard.
