Police search for suspects in rash of armed robberies across Charlotte

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for two suspects who they believe may be involved in a series of armed robberies that occurred in the city Tuesday evening.

The first reported incident happened at 6:48 p.m. at Palmer Street near College Street. A woman told officers she was walking on the sidewalk on South Tryon towards Carson when a vehicle pulled into a local restaurant and a passenger got out of the car and began following her.

She said this person followed her until she turned onto Palmer Street at which time he apparently got back into the suspect vehicle. This same car then pulled in front of her and cut her off as she was walking. The passenger then pointed a gun at her.

The woman believed that this was an attempted robbery and immediately ran away from the car and hid nearby, police said.

The woman described one of the suspects as a black male, 40 to 50 years old, 190 pounds, with a salt and pepper beard. He was wearing a black coat, loose fitting jeans, and a black toboggan. She described the vehicle as a red, older model, four-door sedan.

More than a hour later at 8:19 p.m., police said another robbery was reported. A man told officers that he was sitting in his vehicle in a parking lot in the 5400 block of Albemarle Road when he was robbed at gunpoint by two men, one who was pointing a gun. The suspects were able to run away.

At 8:59 p.m., a woman reported being robbed at 3711 Central Avenue. She said a man who was armed with a handgun robbed her in the parking lot of a Check Cashing business. The suspect fled the scene in a burgundy colored sedan, which was being driven by another person.

At 9:58 p.m. in the Commonwealth Ave at the Plaza, a man told officers he was sitting in his vehicle in a bank parking lot when two men, one who was armed with a gun, attempted to take his car. The victim said he was hit in the head with the handgun but fought back. The two suspects fled in a red sedan.

The last incident occurred at 10:34 p.m. at 1626 East Blvd. A woman reported to police that while she was sitting in her vehicle in the parking lot of Bad Daddys Burgers she was approached by a man who pointed a gun at her and stole her car. Her vehicle was recovered later and the two suspects were seen fleeing the vehicle and then getting into a red sedan.

Anyone who may have information regarding any of these incidents is asked to call Charlotte Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
