CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested one suspect and are looking for another after responding to multiple shots fired on Purser Drive on Sunday morning. Two people were shot and taken to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries early Sunday morning in east Charlotte, according to police.
Robert Potts tells Fox46 he was sitting outside when the shooting broke out on his front lawn.
“All of a sudden a person pull up… They start shooting!”
Potts says he did not know the two men that battled with bullets, hitting his car and house. Potts raced inside for cover.
“I jumped my own fence… knocking on the door…BANG BANG BANG… let me in the house!”
But inside his home was not safe. He heard his daughter crying that her mother had been hit. Potts' wife was in the bathroom when bullets pierced through the glass window and struck her in the face. Blood poured in the hallway as she was rushed to CMC. The bullet is still stuck in her lip, to be removed by surgery Monday morning.
“Thank god my daughter didn’t get hit… they could have killed my daughter…my wife… how could I live?”
When they arrived, two people were found suffering from gunshot wounds. Police have made one arrest and are still searching for a second suspect involved in the shooting.
Potts tells Fox46 he has never seen anything like this in his neighborhood, where his daughter and other children could have been playing in the streets. He says he is determined more than ever to protect his house and protect his family.
“This yard right here belong to me! Next time… I ain’t asking no body permission… I'm gonna do what I do baby… cuz they gone and violated my rights.”
Medic says one person was sent to CMC Main with life threatening injuries and another with minor injuries to CMC University.
CMPD is still investigating the events leading up to the shooting.
