A woman was killed after her car collided with a flatbed truck Wednesday afternoon in west Charlotte.

The wreck happened about 3:09 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Boulevard, which is near Charlotte Douglas International Airport. According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the driver of a 2006 Hyundai Sonata struck the back of a parked 2019 freightliner flatbed. Investigators said the flatbed had been parked in the right lane with its flashers on for about an hour and a half.

The driver of the Sonata, 62-year-old Sandra Ellen Jackson, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the hospital, police said.

No one was inside the flatbed at the time of the crash.

Part of West Boulevard after Billy Graham Parkway was shutdown. It has since reopened. Drivers were asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
