Freezing rain, ice and sleet hit parts of North Carolina hard Sunday morning, causing thousands to wake up in the dark.

Forsyth County, located in the northern part of the state, saw a large amount of reported power outages. Ice collecting on the trees, caused many to weigh down on power lines, knocking out power.
