Property owner is frustrated with illegal dumping on his land

Rodney Shinn wants to make it clear that his Huntersville property on McCord Road is not a place to dump what you don’t want.

“It's just not right. I wouldn't do it to somebody else and I wouldn't expect people to do it to us,” Shinn said.

Shinn contacted police to report illegal dumping on his acres of land. He found large amounts of leaves, limbs and debris on the property.

“I think it's people looking for an easy way out to get rid of materials and not have to pay to recycle them,” Shinn sad.

Shinn is now responsible for disposing of the items.

Statistics show that illegal dumping in North Carolina is a crime that’s on the rise. Penalties range from a misdemeanor to a felony.

A police report states, “there have been at least five incidents where the unknown suspects have dumped leaves and branches on the property without the owner’s knowledge or consent,” between November 30 and December 10.

Police are investigating.
