CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A new Charlotte organization working to tackle mental health issues said the conversation can begin with a simple questions: "R U OK?"
The group "R U OK, CLT?" hosted its first meeting to a sold out crowd at the Evening Muse in NoDa on Tuesday.
"Understanding and knowing how your friends and family are doing and just normalizing that check-in is really important," co-founder Kelli Raulerson said.
The group hosted a set of entertainers who performed poetry, comedy and music -- all geared towards mental health awareness.
Following the performances, the entertainers, along with a moderator, hosted an intimate discussion, engaging audience members to ask questions and share stories about mental health.
"A lot of times it's just that little spark, it's just that little question, 'Are you O.K.?'" co-founder Joe Kuhlmann said.
"R U OK, CLT?" is scheduled to meet every third Tuesday of the month during 2019.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and the event goes from 7:30-9 p.m.
