Danny Lotz, the son-in-law of Billy Graham has passed away, according to Anne Graham Lotz's Facebook page.

The Bay Leaf Fire Department responded to a drowning call at the home in Raleigh Monday afternoon.

According to a post on Lotz's Facebook page she found her husband Danny unresponsive in their pool around 3:45 p.m.

The post said he was in a hospital ICU receiving excellent care. There were no answers yet as to the outcome, according to the post.

Anne continued to update her Facebook on Danny's condition throughout the week.

Anne posted to her website in reference to her husband Danny, "As a New Yorker he was plain spoken. As a German he was stubborn. As a Christian he was a compassionate servant leader. He was more than a man’s man. He was God’s man who triumphantly finished his race having fought the good fight, and having kept his faith firmly focused on the kingdom of God first."

Governor McCrory released the following statement, "Ann and I were saddened today to hear the news about the death of Danny Lotz. Danny was a champion in so many ways. First as a member of UNC’s 1957 undefeated national basketball championship team and then later in life as his faith led him to be a strong supporter and mentor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and as a dedicated Bible study teacher. He was truly a North Carolina legend. We send our prayers to his wife Ann and the rest of their family in this truly difficult time."
