CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Neighbors in Carolina Forest Court were visiting each other's homes all day on Monday, sharing their shock after a young man was shot and killed in the neighborhood.
18-year-old Terale Claridy-Vaught was found dead from a gunshot wound just before 10:30 p.m. in the 14400 block of Carolina Forest Court on Sunday.
Police say they were already on that street, responding to a call about shots fired into a home at the cul-de-sac, when they heard the gunfire.
Neighbors quickly called 911, but this isn't the first time there's been trouble in the neighborhood.
“[We] have heard shots fired before,” said John Weber, who lives in Cedar Ridge.
The same house that was shot at Sunday night was also targeted in January, according to a police report.
The woman who filed the report was arrested last month for resisting an officer. She did not want to speak with FOX 46.
Several neighbors say they see cars coming and going at that house every day.
“They're trouble,” Weber said.
Claridy-Vaught also had a troubled past. He was arrested and charged with two felonies in December for robbery with a dangerous weapon. According to his arrest record, he lived in Rock Hill.
Police have not said if his death is connected to the shooting at this home on Carolina Forest Court, but Weber told FOX 46 a “detective says they know each other.”
Most of the neighbors FOX 46 spoke with say they're afraid of what's going on at Carolina Forest Court.
Police are still looking for the person who shooter. Anyone with information is asked to call (704) 432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective. The public can also call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
