CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 Charlotte) - A busy Charlotte road had to be shut down after a robbery suspect crashed their car trying to avoid police Wednesday evening, officials said.
The wreck happened on Eastway Drive in the area of Shamrock Drive and Frontenac Avenue. According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, officers located a vehicle about 6:03 p.m. that matched the description of a vehicle that was involved in a robbery. A chase ensued, which resulted in the suspect vehicle striking several other cars.
All five people in the suspect vehicle jumped out and ran, but were later detained, according to police.
No injuries were reported.
Eastway Drive was closed in both directions near Shamrock Drive and Frontenac Avenue as a result of the crash. It has since been reopened.
