Charlotte Democrats voted Tuesday in a runoff selecting Jennifer Roberts to represent them in November's mayoral election.

Roberts won with 54 percent of the vote. She will run against Republican candidate Edwin Peacock in November in the general election.

The morning after the runoff win, Roberts said on Good Day Charlotte she remains focused on her platform to increase opportunities in underprivileged communities in Charlott, particularly when it comes to schools, jobs and access to transportation. She says Charlotte's growth remains one of its largest challenges, but she said its a good challenge to have.

Peacock also came on Good Day Charlotte following the runoff. He emphasized public safety as his top concern for the city. He said Charlotte needs a comprehensive plan for combating crime in the metro area. If elected, he said he would put together a task force with Charlotte's police chief to focus on crime. He also said he would make sure city taxes and fees stay level to keep Charlotte affordable.

The general election for Charlotte mayor is Tuesday, November 3, 2015.
