Rowan County student reports being choked on school bus

Rowan County investigators arrested an 18-year-old West Rowan High School student and charged him with assault after a reported incident on a school bus.

An arrest warrant states he choked a 15-year-old student on the bus.

Public documents show Daevonne Harris is facing a misdemeanor charge for "placing his arm around her neck and choking her," on Monday.

FOX 46 Charlotte spoke with the victim who asked not be identified.

She said while walking to her seat on the bus, the suspect complained about her going too slow. After they got to their seats, she responded to his complaints.

"I was like in shock, but like at the same time scared, but like I didn't know how to feel. He's really choking me," she said.

After the incident she reported it to the bus driver and also told her mom when she got home.

We reached out to the principal of the high school who said someone would call us back with more information. As of Thursday night, we hadn't received an callbacks.

FOX 46 Charlotte will continue to reach out to the school to figure out if any disciplinary action has been taken against the accused student and if there is bus footage of the reported incident.

The suspect's family declined our request from comment.
