Charlotte, NC - With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas around the corner, shopping is on everybody's mind. But, so is safety and security.
“You know, the ISIS organization kind of threatened the United States as the next target,” said Mike Schmidt, a Pre-Black Friday shopper. “And I know there's like really high security right at the Thanksgiving weekend."
At SouthPark Mall, security is a top priority during this time of year.
"We do take it seriously and there are measures in place to ensure that the mall is safe and secure,” said Nicole Kennon, Director of Marketing and Business Development at SouthPark.
Kennon said that means more security guards patrolling the mall on segways and more CMPD officers on standby.
"We have great relationships with CMPD and other agencies.” said Kennon. And, again, safety of the shoppers and our retailers is top priority for us."
But shoppers, like Schmidt, said it’s also important for people to take precautions of their own.
"I think a lot of it has to do with being aware of your surroundings and feeling self-confident that you can deal with whatever the situation may be,” said Schmidt.
