The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte is expanding its Uptown Charlotte shelter as cold temperatures expand across the Carolinas.
The Center of Hope, which houses on average of 300 each night, is adding additional beds and other resources to help those looking to stay warm. The shelter, which normally closes during the day, will remain open around the clock to help people battle the cold. Anyone who stays at the shelter will also receive warm meals.
The shelter will be open for the next several days. Nighttime lows in Charlotte are forecast to drop into the teens this week.
The Center of Hope is located at 534 Spratt Street.
