A South Carolina man is in custody after police say he stole a vehicle with an 18-month-old child inside at the time.

Gaston County police say they were called about 8 p.m. Wednesday to the 900 block of View Heights Court in Gastonia, NC in reference to the incident.

An Amber Alert was issued, but has since been cancelled. Detectives were able to located the child unharmed at 5 a.m. Thursday morning in York County in South Carolina.

Theodore R. Lipscomb, 41 of Clover, SC, was arrested in York County in South Carolina with help from the York County Sheriff's Office. According to police, Lipscomb is an acquaintance of the mother of the kidnapped child and had been riding with her and her boyfriend in the car prior to the theft.

Witnesses told Fox 46 Charlotte the parents and child were visiting friends for the Thanksgiving holiday, and that a friend was in the vehicle with them. When the parents were inside the suspect took off with the child in the car.

"I was actually surprised," a neighbor said. "It was surprising that somebody would take off with a child right at Thanskgiving."

Lipscomb is being held in South Carolina pending extradition to North Carolina.

Police are still working to locate the stolen Chevrolet Suburban that was last known to be towing a boat.
