Search is on for slain Shelby teen's killer

Family members of Delavin Card just want to know who shot and killed their loved one.

“My heart is gone. It's crushed,” said the victim’s cousin, AJ Card.

On Thursday morning, Rickie Martin was the first to call 911. While cooking breakfast, she noticed a body behind her Stonehenge Townhouse. She saw a man on the ground, in the woods.

“I just don't understand how somebody could do something like that to somebody. That's kind of cold,” Martin said.

Shelby Police Chief, Jeffrey Ledford, said the victim had been shot. Investigators believe the shooting took place around the midnight. The victim was discovered six hours later. Detectives are trying to figure out how many suspects are involved, a motive and how the victim ended up in a wooded area behind the townhouses. Ledford said the teenager did not live at the complex.

“The loss of life in and of itself is bad enough. But when it's a 17-year old just getting started with life that makes it worse. But at no point should we tell a mother her 17-year-old is not coming home. That's, that's, that's the sad part in this whole thing,” said Ledford.

Meanwhile, the people who live in and near the Warren Street complex are praying for that victim’s family.

“I pray for the family, and I hope the family gets through this and may God be with them,” said a woman whose daughter lives across from where the body was found.
