Several arrested after shooting outside Discovery Place

Discovery Place is a popular spot for kids and families to be during the day, but it turned into crime scene Wednesday night. According to police, shots were fired right outside the building in Uptown.

Luckily it was closed. Some charlotte residents were definitely concerned with where this shooting took place.

“Very surprised. Shocked actually,” said one man.

CMPD was called to Discovery Place just before 7:00 p.m. for reports of shots fired.

“I’m worried about situations like that getting out of hand,” the man said.

Police say only an 18-year-old who they believe to be the shooter has been charged for possession of a gun.

“To see something going down in this area we currently have right here that is predominantly a place you come to enjoy your time spend time with family and you have a lot of leisure time where families can get together so to have something like that going on is preposterous and it should never happen in this community we have here in Charlotte,” said another Charlotte resident.

While no injuries were reported, this type of carelessness is something those in the area say they have no tolerance for.

“This is just not wanted here and should not be here.”

The 18-year-old's name still hasn't been released.
