Sharon Road shooting suspect arrested

Diamonte Williams has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon following a shooting near Southpark Mall Monday.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has made an arrest following a Monday night shooting on Sharon Road near Southpark Mall. 

Diamonte Cortez Williams, 19, has been charged with firing numerous shots at a man trying to flee after a verbal argument, police said Friday. The two men allegedly got into a fight when the victim tried to drive away. Williams followed in another car and began firing shots at the victim's car near the intersection of Sharon Road and South Park Drive, police said. The victim struck another vehicle as he drove off.

A short time later, the victim, whose name has not been released, drove himself to Northeast Regional Medical Center for treatment of a non-life threatening injury caused by being grazed by a bullet, police said.

Williams turned himself in Friday and is being charged with Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property and two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon Intent to Kill, according to police.
