Shelby murder suspect taken into custody

A man wanted in a weekend shooting that left one person dead in Shelby was taken into custody.

Shelby police said they arrested James Lewis Sanford Thursday for the murder of 35-year-old Tyrand Santrell Hopper.

On March 30, officers were called to a home at 415 West Circle Drive where a man had reportedly been shot. Hopper was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was taken to Atrium Health where he later died from his injuries. 

Sanford, 36, is facing a murder charge. He was taken to the Cleveland County Law Enforcement Center and was being held without bond.
