Suspect Jason Mullen via WSIC News, Alexander County

An inmate accused of escaping from the Alexander County Detention Center was found hiding in an abandoned trailer in Hiddenite Friday morning, according to Sheriff Chris Bowman.

Bowman said Jason Mullen was helping other inmates take out the trash Thursday evening when he ran off. He is accused of stealing a vehicle that had the keys in it from the CVCC campus.

Deputies found the vehicle stuck in the mud in a Hiddenite field and say Mullen took off on foot. He was eventually located in an abandoned trailer in the area of Prichard Lane with help from an Iredell County Sheriff bloodhound. Mullen is now charged with escape and larceny of a motor vehicle. Bowman said other charges are possible.

Mullen was first arrested in Iredell County and was being held in Alexander County due to limited jail space. He is awaiting trail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, larceny of a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia.
