STATESVILLE, NC - A north Iredell man was arrested Monday night after an armed standoff with deputies, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
Jeffrey Glenn Daniels, 51 of Statesville, was arrested and charged with several felonies including kidnapping and assault.
According to authorities, about 7:30 p.m. Monday deputies were called to the intersection of Friendship Road and Silhouette Lane about a man firing a gun at people in the neighborhood.
As soon as deputies exited their vehicle, Daniels fired a shotgun in their direction, authorities said. Daniels then barricaded himself in the house and refused to come out, according to the sheriff’s office.
After several minutes of trying to negotiate with Daniels, deputies were able to capture him as he was trying to escape from the house out the back door.
He was taken into custody without incident.
Deputies said the incident started over a neighborhood dispute regarding some kids.
Witnesses told investigators that Daniels had taken an infant from a neighbor and attempted to carry the baby into his house. When a parent of one of the children tried to confront Daniels, he responded by bringing a gun out of his house and firing it in the direction of the parent and other neighbors, authorities said.
The children were treated for minor injuries and released. The baby was released unharmed.
Daniels faces charges of 1st Degree Kidnapping, Assault with a Firearm on a Public Officer, Assault on a Child under 12, Assault on a Female, Resisting Public Officer, Possess Firearm by Felon, and Simple Assault.
Daniels is being held in the Iredell County Jail under $200,000 secured bond.
