Sheriff's Office: 15-year-old charged after threatening school shooting

A 15-year-old has been charged after threatening to shoot people at his school, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

On Wednesday, April 10, deputies were told by a parent of a student at West Iredell High School that a shooting threat had been overheard. 

The Sheriff's Office immediately followed up on the tip and began an investigation. The suspect was identified and questioned along with witnesses.

Based on the statements given, the 15-year-old will be charged with one felony count of false reporting of mass violence on educational property. 

Students, parents and teachers are encouraged to report any threats to the school's student resource officer, or the Sheriff's Office.
