Silver Alert canceled for 79-year-old Matthews man

UPDATE: 11/26/18 - At the request of the Matthews Police Department, the N.C. Center for Missing Persons has canceled the Silver Alert for 79-year-old Richard Michael Gibbons.

According to police, Gibbons was located around 3 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26 in Gaylax, Virginia. 

Officers said Gibbons was involved in a minor car crash and was not injured. He has been reunited with his family and is doing OK. 

Matthews police want to thank everyone that helped in getting his information out to the public. 


POSTED: 11/25/18 - Richard Michael Gibbons was last seen in the 200 block of Foxfield Ln. Gibbons is believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment. A Silver Alert has been issued for a 79-year-old man from Matthews who has gone missing. 

Gibbons is described as a while man with short gray hair and hazel eyes. He is 5' 8" and weighs about 170 pounds. He was wearing gray sweater and black pants. His car is a 2009 light blue Hyuandai Santa Fe.
